Nufiwa on the Grill

Nufiwa on the Grill

Mmm…summer. Can’t you almost hear the sizzle of something juicy on the grill, the sprinklers on the lawn, and the crisp shatter of a perfect watermelon being sliced open? It’s simply heaven in disguise.

One of the best parts of any summer is spending a delicious afternoon out by the grill with your besties. But is it possible to enjoy such an amazing part of the year while still eating nufiwa?

The answer is (of course) yes! In fact, you might find that nufiwa on the grill is perhaps the yummiest thing you’ll eat all summer.

Eating Nufiwa

Remember, eating nufiwa means making the bulk of what you eat nutrient, fiber, water-dense (nufiwa) foods. This means that you aim for each meal to be at least 75% nufiwa. At a summer grill party, it looks like this:

A little hamburger, a lot of nufiwa...voila! A perfect nufiwa summer meal.

Are you addicted to your Aunt Nancy’s famous potato salad? Love those crispy chips? Can’t get by without a juice brat? Perfect! There is still room on your plate (roughly 25% of it) for these yummies, but eating nufiwa helps ensure that the bulk of your meal is food that gives your body what it needs…meaning that you still feel fabulous (and can rock that swimsuit at the after-grill swim party!).

Nufiwa on the Grill

Here are some absolutely delicious nufiwa options to add to your next grill party. Brush any of these with grapeseed or olive oil, kosher salt and a dash of pepper before throwing them onto your preheated grill (then wait to be transported to grill heaven). Leftovers make amazing toppings for a grilled pizza.

  • Summer squash and zucchini (cut in half, flip once)
  • Heirloom tomatoes (cut in half, place uncut side on grill and remove when juicy)
  • Mushrooms (remove stem, place top-side down on the grill and remove when juicy)
  • Onions (cut in half or in thick rings, flip once)
  • Peppers of all colors (cut in half, flip once)
  • Corn on the cob (grill right on the flame or wrap in the soaked greens before throwing on the grill)
  • Yellow or red potatoes (boil these before to soften and then finish cooking on the grill)
  • Asparagus (either place right on the grill or wrap in tinfoil…so yummy)

And for dessert:

  • Strawberries (remove stem and place right on the grill; remove when juicy and serve over vanilla bean ice cream, drizzled with balsamic vinegar)

With nufiwa on the grill, this just might be your best summer yet.
